Plant relocation project: Pernis Oil Refinery / Chemical Plant

Pernis Refinery

Pernis is a joint oil refinery/chemicals manufacturing site. At this location, Shell Nederland Chemie BV (SNC) manufactures lower olefins, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), chemical solvents, hydrocarbon solvents, brake fluids and polyols. The refinery is operated by Shell Nederland Raffinaderij BV.

Chemicals production started on the Pernis site in 1949. This site, together with the nearby Moerdijk site, has since grown into one of the largest chemical complexes in the Netherlands.

Ailsbury Project managers and staff were contracted to dismantle and relocate the Basell polypropylene plant from Pernis to Bayport Texas. The project’s dismantling phase started in September 2007 and finished successfully in January 2008. Reconstruction phase in conjunction with KBR USA was completed in November 2008.
